I debated using one of my stock photos of Norm Minas, but decided to stick with the standard studio shot when guests appear on "Outside,'' which features Norm this afternoon.

With nothing of football interest, there seems like a hole in the weekend, but winter doings, some inside, pace this Wild Weekend Wandering around Chicago outdoors.

I am very uncomfortable with the FLW starting high school fishing on the national level, and I say that as somebody who is a huge supporter of Illinois' ground-breaking high school bass fishing championship; In fact I broke the story on it for the Sun-Times.

The Chicago Carp Classic is coming home.


Obviously, this is the week for the big show, America's Outdoor Show at the Stephens Center in Rosemont, but there are options in week three for outdoor shows around Chicago.

There was a crush of people when America's Outdoor Show opened yesterday afternoon, then it tailed off to the usual dribble of opening day.

So Pat Harrison called this week and suggested, well, let's say it applies to this Wild Weekend Wandering around Chicago outdoors.

The Hammond Outdoor Sports Show bridges the gap this weekend between the biggest week of outdoor shows around Chicago last week and the big show, America's Outdoor Show, coming next week.

Illinois deer hunters bagged a preliminary total of 181,936 deer in all seasons, down nearly 10 percent from the record year of 2005-06.
