Mulling things on my morning ramble
with Storm, the family's mixed Lab.
After too many days away for Thanksgiving at the in-laws, I found the meathead more than ready for his usual ramble this morning.
Barking and pushing his nose anxiously against my leg, all to hurry me along.
As dawn came, we made the circuit for the first time in nearly a week.
Not much game, only one black squirrel, no rabbits and, most stunningly, no Canada geese on either pond.
But looking for geese, I thought, ``What's this?''
Yes, skim ice had fprmed over several of the more protected ends of the town pond.
The change comes.
Maybe I missed the first skim ice while we were gone.
This skim ice will be gone quickly with the incoming rain and warmth.
But it'll be back later this week, and thickening.
Time to turtle it, pull my neck in and settle in as winter drops down.
