BUCKHORN, Ill.--Last Sunday, I had my first visit to Siloam Springs State Park Buckhorn Unit.

I was lucky enough to draw a free upland permit there, then hunted it with Steve Palmisano, his nephew Joe Palmisano and Steve's faithful shorthair Rusty.
It was one of the more memorable hunts I have been on.
Not the least of which was getting semi-lost and following this small creek and its series of waterfalls.

Those free upland permits, there was about 2-5 chances of drawing one this year, are the coolest program in Illinois outdoors.
