Last last week, I received my first free upland game permit in five years.

The last time I drew a free upland game permit, which give a hunter and up to three companions (at most sites) the right to hunt a pheasant or quail habitat site for one day, was five years ago for Clifton PHA (above).
This time I drew a distant site down by Peoria, a place I have never been, so it should be interesting.
So far, I haven't heard from any friends whether they drew lucky.
Five years between successful draws seems like a long time.
But it is the coolest hunting program in Illinois. The draw for 2011 begins on Aug. 1, 2011. Yes, it is worth looking that far ahead.

Next year try doing the Green River Habitat upland hunt. Its a site located near where I am from, I apply each year and most people who apply get their one day free hunt with their 3 companions. Its a small town area, mainly all country. The site is just north of the tiny town of Ohio, Illinois.
