Chicago outdoors: Fall mushrooms

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Ed Bowen sent a photo of a bonus find while scouting for deer on Sunday.

Here is the south suburban man's note:

Dale: Here's a photo of a Puff ball mushroom I found on Sunday. I always find them when im out scouting for deer the week end before bow season. Next will be the Hen of the woods, Pigs ears or Cauliflower depending on what you call them in another 2-3 weeks. I deep batter fried this one. It was quite tasty with some grilled Italian sausage.

My favorite part of this may be the last two sentences.

I feel compelled to add this note of caution: Know your mushrooms before consuming them.
