LEWISTOWN, Ill.--It must be my year for tagged fish, first a PIT tag in a muskie at Webster Lake earlier this month, then a Floy tag in this largemouth at Emiquon Preserve on June 19.
That's Pete Riedesel, my fishing companion, cleaning off the tag and trying to read it to me, since he has better eyes.
If you catch a bass with Floy tag at Emiquon, call the Havana field office of Illinois Natural history Survey at (309) 543-6000. Nerissa Michaels is doing a neat study on the place of largemouth bass as a predator at Emiquon.
She said mine was the third reported this year.
The tag was 07-01942. The bass was 19 inches, weighing about 3 pounds.
She said it was one of the first largemouth tagged on April 28, 2008. Then it was 352 mm and 723 grams or about 1.6 pounds and 13.8 inches.
I find this stuff fascinating.
