John Shefcik earns a different Buck of the Week: Unplugged for this photo and story.

He sent this note with the photo:
How about doing a future buck of the week picture. My kids and I came across this little fella while hiking in the south suburban forest preserves.
My next question was how he knew it was a buck, and he didn't.
His point was that they didn't get close enough to disturb the fawn. Which is exactly the right way to handle those situations. Even if fawns look abandoned, the doe is usually right around somewhere and the fawn should not be disturbed.
I like the photo a lot, but am not sure if I want fawn photos to become a regular part of BOTW: Unplugged, that weekly celebration in season of live big bucks around Chicago outdoors.
If you have thoughts on that or nominations, e-mail them to outdoordb@sbcglobal.net.
BOTW: Unplugged tops the Field Notes on the outdours page of the Sun-Times on Sundays when bucks are around. An online version appears here, usually on Saturday or Sunday during the season.
