Ramble with Storm: Kingfishers & cormorants

storm3x Mulling things on my morning ramble
with Storm, the family's mixed Lab.

A ``loud rattling cry'' is how allaboutbirds.org describes the call of a belted kingfisher.

I don't think I can offer a better description than that one.

Kingfishers show up sporadically at the town pond. I welcome the sight of them.

Heard one this morning, but couldn't find it along the shoreline trees. Must be losing my skills.

The sight of them is key.

Kingfishers are kind of cool looking. At least I think so. They rank fairly how on my list of cool birds.

By contrast, cormorants look blah or slightly sinister.

Both eat fish. You know which one is considered evil.

That's right, the sinister cormorants. Granted, cormorants have more of an impact on fisheries than kingfishers.

But I think it is more than that.

Perception matters in the outdoors.
