There was a weather window Wednesday morning, and I am glad I joined Capt. Bob Jenkins in perch fishing out of Waukegan.

Nearly flat, just a light fishing, the dawn looked wonderful as we headed out.
Jenkins, who runs the two-boat Challenger Charters, put us on a less used hump in 54.5 feet to start. And our first drift produced five.
It looked like one of those days, then things got slower.
We ended up pulling a limit of good perch, the best just a touch over 14 inches.
Good day.
We need more windows like that. There was something encouraging about seeing 100 boats out on a week day. Guess everybody can read the weather forecasts.

It's $20 to launch at Waukegan Harbor.
