I like to trot out a word like eclectic now and then, and it fits this week, make it week eight for shows around Chicago outdoors.
Yeah, that's eclectic, some of the singing at last year's Chicago Maritime Festival.
We'll lead with that, but also note that there's been some adds to the upcoming shows.
Chris Kiernan's big 37-point buck from Kendall County, the pending Illinois non-typical record, should highlight the Illinois Deer & Turkey Classic at the Interstate Center in Bloomington Friday through Sunday. If you're a deer hunter and have never gone, you're mssing something wonderful. For info, go to deerinfo.com/illinoishome.asp
The Spring Fishing Classic is at Bass Pro Shops from Friday through March 14. for info go to basspro.com/classic.
Then there is the Blue Island Firefighters Club's 44th sports show is at Bourbon Street in Merrionette Park from 1-6 p.m. Sunday. Call Jim Klinker at (708) 396-7072 or stop by Fire Station No. 1 at 2450 W. Vermont, Blue Island. Cost is $35, or $40 at the door.
For that money, there's a ton of stuff as F.F. Adam Staszewski outlined here:
I am a Blue Island firefighter and I am helping to run this years 44th annual sports show. Let me explain, it's not a show like Tinley's or Rosemont's, it's more like a smoker without the smoke. We provide 5 hours of food/beer/drink and door prizes which included (last years and should be the same this year) a 14ft alumacraft w/ a 6 hp motor, a trolling motor, and a n'pursuit salmon fishing charter. Most people bring big groups or small ones, some play poker or just enjoy the food and the prizes. During the entire event prizes also included in the ticket are being raffled off. Anything from rod/reel combo's, rods, reels, nets, tackles boxes, coolers, flashlights, etc. This is all included in the ticket. The only extra cost will be a raffle for a flat screen t.v and an ATV. Also you can have a chance to win some cash at the many tip boards that go around. Last year we changed venues from Mother of Sorrows to Bourbon Street in Merrionette Park, just West of Kedzie on 115th st. . . . The only change besides venue is no smoking in the building and no cash on the tables, you can bring your own chips or buy some from us. Also, there will be a texas hold'em tourney for the big players and the Band of Brothers bag pipe band. So for 35 bucks pre-purchased or 40 at the door you will have a great time, eat as much food as you can, enjoy some beer, have a chance at 3 great door prizes and many smaller prizes, and at the same time be contributing to the Blue Island Firefighters Club. . . . Any questions or to buy tickets call the fire house at 708 396-7075.
