Chicago outdoors: Showtime, Week 6

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

The Tinley Park Fishing & Outdoors Show picked up a nice coup for this afternoon to highlight week six of showtime around Chicago outdoors..

Tinley Park Fishing & Outdoor Show: IDNR director Marc Miller will talk on fishing Illinois State Parks at 1 p.m. today, a nice pickup for show managers.

Speaking of show managers, I should say show manager, Rich Komar, just nails his audience. This is a show that south suburban people make a destination.

My Downstate buddy Jeff Lampe of PrairieStateOutdoors.com even shamelessly copied the model for a show, the Elmwood All Outdoors Show, he is starting this year on March 6-7. Similar to the Tinley show it is to benefit a school.

Other daily speakers at Tinley are Cat Matt Jones (10 a.m.), Todd Gessner (11:30 a.m.) and Ryan Standke (2:30 p.m.)

The stars of this show are not just the stars but the booths, one of the reasons for the show's success.

Chicago RV & Camping Show: The show started Wednesday at the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont and runs through Sunday. For info, go to thervshow.com

Henry Decoy Show: It is Sunday this year. This is probably the show I must regret never having visited. Not because I would buy or collect a decoy. That's not my style, but this stuff just fascinates me.

The show will have a bittersweet flavor this year. It is being held in memory of Don Clark, who passed away on Dec. 16. I had the pleasure of meeting him once, and he literally was the heart and soul of the Henry Decoy Show since its conception in 1968.

It's at the Henry-Senachwine High School on Route 29 in Henry. Contact Susan or Bruce Bauter at (309) 364-4104 or bbauter@mchsi.com
