If anybody knows the young man who caught the apparent Indiana record yellow perch in the flotilla today off Gary Light, please have him get it weighed on a certified scale or have it properly wrapped in wet towels before freezing tonight.
The perch weighed 2.6 pounds, which is slightly heavier than 2 pounds, 9 ounces, on a hand-held scale at Mik-Lurch.
The Indiana record (2-8) was caught by Roy W. Burkel Jr. from a gravel pit in Vigo County in 1981.
If I can be of any help, contact me at outdoordb@sbcglobal.net. For a state record, I will forgo watching the Bears.
There were at least three perch of 16 inches or longer caught this weekend.
apparently, I should have been perch fishing isntead of deer hunting.
Yesterday on the tree stand, I got a text from fishing companion Jim Giglio about ``the armada on the clay flats.'' He had keepers between 12 and 16 inches.
Today, Mike Starcevich counted at least 85 boats. ``And that's for late November,'' he said.
These fish are worth it.
