The early bowhunting harvest in Illinois (11,945 through Sunday) continues on a record pace and the the weekend youth hunt posted a record harvest of 2,304 (RECORD NOTE ADDED)..

Here's the word from Paul Shelton:

Current archery harvest stands at 11945, compared to 8958 (2008), 5982 (2007), 9949 (2006), and 11841 (2005). Cool weather conditions continue to encourage hunter participation. A few rainy days dampened harvest somewhat during last week, but harvest continues to be strong. Top five counties are Pike (580), Jefferson (336), Fulton (331), LaSalle (276), and Peoria (268).

Youth deer season was very successful, with a harvest of 2304, up significantly over the previous two years' results: 1007 (2008), and 863 (2007). Top five counties were Pike (116), Adams (80), Jefferson (78), Randolph (74), and Fulton (73).

Harvest sex ratios to date (including both archery and youth) have been 67.6% female; 32.4% male
