Canada geese: Early and urban

Here's a familar sight in northeast Illinois, Canada geese grazing in an urban park.


In today's outdoors column in the Sun-Times, I take a look at urban geese and the early Canada goose season in Illinois, which opened yesterday and runs through Sept. 15.

It was a good year for reproduction with 2.11 young per adult in northeast Illinois. Such young birds usually means better hunting.
