For those who know me, it probably seems odd for me to say I like covering the Mac yacht race from Chicago to Mackinac Island, Mich. But I love it.
In case you planned fishing or boating off Monroe, Navy Pier, etc. this afternoon, be forewarned that 300-plus Mac boats will be lining up to sail from late morning into the afternoon.
One year, I was fishing near the start and it was quite a spectacular sight. My favorite start memory is when my friend Seth Schwartz convinced me to sail in his small sailboat out of Evanston to see it.
