Mayor Daley is expected for the Saturday morning dedication of the Richard J. Daley Boat Launch at 3120 S. Western Avenue on the south bank of the Sanitary and Ship Canal.
This is probably my favorite shot of the launch, taken a couple weeks before its opening last summer.
The launch officially opened just over a year ago in time for the July 4th holiday. It was something when it opened, by far the most beautiful launch in Chicago. And I raved about it.
Then the trouble started with vandalism and the launch became a non-factor. Recent efforts have attempted to stem the trouble with increased policing on several levels.
I sure hope it comes back, safe and sound for the long haul, not just the week leading up to the dedication. It's truly a wonderful launch in a spot with easy access to downtown.
