Mayor Daley not only dedicated the launch named for his late father, the Richard J. Daley Boat Launch at 3120 S. Western Avenue on the south bank of the Sanitary and Ship Canal, but hung around to tour the site.

He talked with fishermen on the pier and held a discussion with Bruce Zolna and Don Dubin of Mayor Daley's Fishing Advisory Committee on the way back. He spent far longer than expected.
Tom Palmisano presented him with a plaque of a famous photo of the late Mayor with a salmon.

Biggest news was the Mayor saying in his remarks that next up is two launches:One east of Canal and one north.
Before you get too crazy, that doesn't mean it will happen next week. An insider said that meant those plans were just upgraded up out of the wish list stage, but it will still be years down the road.
This launch took nearly a decade from wish list to launching.
