CARLYLE, Ill.--Right on schedule, the world's first statewide high school bass fishing tournament took off this morning.

Boats were launching by 5:30 a.m. and nearly a dozen were on water by sunrise for the first IHSA bass fishing championship today and tomorrow.
In all 52 boats took off, starting at 6:55 on Carlyle Lake. By 7:08, the last one was under way.

Regina Dominican, the only all-girls school entered, fit right in.

And Taft, the only Chicago Public School to qualifier, took off into the sun shortly after 7.
The tournament may be shortened today. It looks like heavy weather could arrive by around mid-day.
