As soon as free agency began on Sunday, the rumblings began about the Blackhawks having interest in the services of future Hall-of-Fame goalie Martin Brodeur.

A source confirmed that the Hawks have some interest in Brodeur, who has become available with the New Jersey Devils having financial issues. The Hawks are said to prefer a one-year deal for Brodeur, if anything.

Pierre Lebrun of TSN and ESPN has reported that the Hawks have reached out to Brodeur's camp. Brodeur recently hired agent Pat Brisson.

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville didn't think twice about starting goalie Corey Crawford in a do-or-die Game 5 against the Phoenix Coyotes. He just didn't want to announce it a day beforehand.

With a couple of soft goals allowed in overtime, the Blackhawks seemingly have a goalie conundrum on their hands ... again.

DALLAS -- The Blackhawks' plan was to have Corey Crawford, who was coming off a strong performance against the St. Louis Blues, start against the Stars in Dallas on Friday.

But if Ray Emery was still sick, who would back him up?

NEW YORK -- The Blackhawks were down at one end of the rink Wednesday at Chelsea Piers in New York, running drills in close on Ray Emery and badgering him with shots.

At the other end, Corey Crawford worked alone with goalie coach Stephane Waite.
