The Chicago Sun-Times' "3 stars" from Game 1 of the Blackhawks' first-round series against the Phoenix Coyotes:
1 - Mike Smith
The Coyotes goalie had 43 saves, including five in overtime, to nullify the Hawks' 45-34 shot advantage. It was the sixth consecutive game he allowed less than three goals.
2 - Martin Hanzal
The Coyotes center scored the game-winning goal 9:29 into overtime and personified Phoenix's physical approach with a game-high eight of the Coyotes' 48 hits. His goal snapped a 24-game scoreless drought.
3 - Jonathan Toews
The Hawks captain scored on his first shot since suffering a concussion that forced him to miss 22 games. He also assisted on Brent Seabrook's tying goal with 14.2 seconds left in regulation.
