The Blackhawks still aren't saying much regarding the injury status of tough guy Daniel Carcillo. But it's feared that Carcillo sustained significant damage to his left knee.
"We're still talking about the options with him there," coach Joel Quenneville said Wednesday before the Hawks departed for Philadelphia. "He had some tests done [Tuesday] and we're still evaluating him."
Surgery?
"We'll see," Quenneville said.
Long-term injury?
"We'll see," Quenneville said.
But all signs point to both. Carcillo injured his knee when he checked Oilers defenseman Tom Gilbert hard into the end boards in Monday's loss, which also resulted in Carcillo being suspended indefinitely by the league pending a disciplinary hearing.
Gilbert bounced off the end boards and fell directly on Carcillo's left leg. The Oilers didn't have a chance to respond to the hit as Carcillo lay on the ice, holding his left leg in obvious pain. Carcillo, who recently missed six games with a concussion, was helped off the ice by John Scott and Jamal Mayers.
Here's a video of the hit:
With Carcillo hurt, Andrew Shaw was added to the Hawks' roster. Shaw, 20, signed his three-year, entry-level deal on Tuesday. He's considered a younger version of Carcillo.
"[Carcillo] came back after missing a few games and was pretty effective for us," Quenneville said. "Shaw was playing well down there [in Rockford]. He gives us a little personality and kind of a comparable player."

A dirty hit backfired on him. If suspensions don't make him think twice about intending to injure another player maybe this will.
