Tough guy Daniel Carcillo is banged up. He sat out practice Thursday and the Blackhawks' morning skate Friday and will miss Friday night's matchup against Anaheim Ducks.
The Hawks aren't saying much about his injury.
Coach Joel Quenneville described Carcillo's ailment as a "not serious" upper-body injury after practice Thursday and maintained that characterization on Friday.
The Hawks called up Ben Smith with Carcillo hurting. Friday's game will be the first Carcillo misses with an injury this season.
Carcillo fought the Minnesota Wild's Brad Staubitz on Wednesday, enduring some head shots late in the scuffle. He also was unexpectedly punched in the face by Kyle Brodziak in a later scrum (no penalty was called).
Asked if Carcillo suffered his injury during those incidents against the Wild, Quenneville replied, "It happened last game."
Smith skated with center Jamal Mayers and winger Andrew Brunette on the fourth line during the morning skate on Friday. But defenseman/enforcer John Scott also is a fourth-line option.
