Center Dave Bolland returns to the lineup Saturday for the Blackhawks.

It took only one game for the Blackhawks to start the Rockford shuffle. With the statuses of Dave Bolland and Ben Smith up in the air, the Hawks went to the farm again to fill out their roster.

Brandon Saad will make his NHL debut tonight alongside Blackhawks stars Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp on the team's top line.

With Dave Bolland and Ben Smith out with injuries, coach Joel Quenneville said the Blackhawks will likely suit up seven defensemen in their season opener against the Dallas Stars on Friday. Here's a look:

With Dave Bolland suffering from an undisclosed upper-body injury and Ben Smith still recovering from a concussion, the Blackhawks recalled rookie center Brandon Pirri from the Rockford IceHogs on Thursday.

Dave Bolland's non-serious upper-body injury might be more serious than previously thought.

Coach Joel Quenneville still maintained that Bolland's undisclosed injury isn't a long-term concern, but said the center was questionable for the opening weekend, a home-and-home with Dallas Stars starting Friday.

Veteran goalie Ray Emery has won the Blackhawks' backup job behind Corey Crawford. The Hawks signed Emery to a one-year deal worth a reported $600,000, while assigning rookie Alexander Salak to the Rockford IceHogs.

The Blackhawks cut one of the more impressive players at training camp and one of the more disappointing on Monday after wrapping up preseason play.

Here's the Blackhawks roster for their final preseason game Sunday against the Washington Capitals. They are 2-3-1 this preseason.
