Dan Carcillo sticks up for Mike Richards, Jeff Carter

Tough guy Dan Carcillo met the Chicago media for the first time as a Blackhawk Monday at the United Center, and one thing stood out: he'll stand up for his new teammates and his old teammates.

Carcillo was asked about the leadership of former Flyers captain Mike Richards, who was traded to the Los Angeles Kings and has garnered some criticism from the media.

According to a Philadelphia Daily News report about the Flyers' "Dry Island" policy, the partying ways of Richards and center Jeff Carter, who was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets, prompted their departures. The former first-round picks were once considered cornerstones of the Flyers franchise.

"I have nothing but good things to say about Mike Richards," said Carcillo, who spent the last three seasons with the Flyers. "He's an amazing person. He's an amazing captain. It makes me upset kind of how he's been dragged through the dirt a little bit as well as Jeff Carter. I don't think it's fair and I don't think it's warranted.

"Jonathan [Toews] and Mike are kind of cut from the same cloth. It's going to be really exciting to have him lead us on the ice."
