TAMPA, Fla. -- Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Pavel Kubina was suspended three games by the NHL Thursday for elbowing Hawks center Dave Bolland in the back of head on Wednesday.

Bolland left the game after the first period of the eventual Hawks' loss in a shootout. He was scheduled to get examined Thursday for a concussion.

There will be no official update from the team until Friday, when the Hawks return to practice, a team spokesman said.

Here is a video of it:

The play happened at 2:09 of the first period. No penalty was assessed on the play. Kubina is eligible to return Mar. 17 at Montreal. He will forfeit $60,096.76.
