Hawks legends receive rings

Members of the Blackhawks' 1961 Stanley Cup-winning team received this ring (above) from Hawks chairman Rocky Wirtz and team president John McDonough Saturday night at a private dinner in Chicago.

It's an exact replica of the ring the 1961 team received when they won the Cup with the addition of "2011" on its side.

The 1961 team was honored with a heritage night, celebrating the 50th anniversary of their Cup win, Sunday at the United Center.

Glenn Hall, Stan Mikita, Bobby Hull, Pierre Pilote, Ab McDonald, Eric Nesterenko, Bill Hay and Wayne Hicks were all on hand at Sunday's game against the Islanders.

"You try and remember the good things and you try and forget the bad things," Hall said. "Effort is a big thing. We didn't get paid a bunch of money, but the one thing is the effort is there. You can sleep nights if you know you gave everything."

Dont forget the Statue announcement...Hull and Mikita are getting an Outdoor Sculpture...its all great stuff. Rings and such are deserved---albeit 50 years later. I just truly hope all this is coming from the Wirtz Liquor Business and not sticking the fans with all these costs---7.25 a beer, 20 dollars Hawk parking, 55 dollar decent 300 level seat, 10 dollars turkey sandwich, 4 dollars bottle of water.

The Cubifying of the Hawks is official now by McDonut. He has a near all NorthShore and NW Suburban Crowd. Working class folks priced out now. In 1961 it was all working class folks that supported and could afford this team.

I still cant get over the unloading of Buff--never mind he has 6 Game Winners and 42 points already this season----he's been one of the very few, if not only, African American they've ever had. What was the point in going out of their way to unload him? Dont start with the Salary cap stuff---they found 3 and half million to keep Hjammer. Dump Hjammer or pay him what he was really worth (800k), move a couple others out they could have kept Buff and appealed to a whole new Segment of future fans---but then again, at these prices, and extra rewards to everybody, you best be from the North Shore or NW burbs or OakBrook area...this is no longer for the regular working fan.
