Former Hawk Dustin Byfuglien, who is having a big season for the Atlanta Thrashers at defense, will also be making the trip down to Raleigh, N.C. for the All-Star game.

None of the Hawks was surprised, considering Byfuglien's 16 goals and 41 points. Both totals lead all NHL defensemen.

"He's had a great year," winger Patrick Kane said. "You hear certain things like 'Norris Trophy candidate' and things like that.

"He was texting me a month or two ago [saying], 'This is going to be my one chance to go. We've got to do it right.' It will be nice to go with Big Buff. It would be nice to see him."

Byfuglien is tied with Patrick Sharp and Steven Stamkos (Tampa Bay Lightning) for the most game-winning goals in the league at six. Byfuglien and Sharp will be making their first All-Star appearances.

"He's having a great season," Sharp said. "It's pretty incredible what he's doing. It will be nice to catch up with him that weekend and some other guys I know."
