Backup goalie Corey Crawford has started the last three games and has won five in a row, but coach Joel Quenneville is turning to veteran Marty Turco Friday against the Vancouver Canucks.
With the Hawks having some days off between games, it's important that Turco sees some action. Both goalies get their fair share of games as the season progresses.
"Turco is getting back in and I think he's excited about getting back in the lineup," Quenneville said Thursday after practice. "He hasn't played in a bit. We want to keep him going. We know he wants to play as well."
After recording his first shutout as Hawk, Turco allowed seven goals in his last two starts, losing both games. Crawford stepped in and won the final two games of the circus trip against the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings. He also held off the St. Louis Blues in a wild 7-5 win Tuesday.
"Crawford, I know he won the game, but keeping them both active and giving them both a chance to play ... is something we're looking forward to doing," Quenneville said.
In injury news, Fernando Pisani (upper body) didn't skate Thursday and is still considered day-to-day. It's unlikely that he plays Friday vs. the Canucks.
