The irony of the situation wasn't lost to Jeremy Morin.
The Blackhawks recalled Morin from the Rockford IceHogs Friday. He will be on the second line with Patrick Sharp and Troy Brouwer Saturday when the Hawks face Dustin Byfuglien, Andrew Ladd, Ben Eager, Brent Sopel and the rest of the Atlanta Thrashers.
Morin was originally drafted by the Thrashers before being sent to the Hawks in the blockbuster deal involving Byfuglien, Sopel and Eager.
"It's exciting," Morin said. "It's a bit ironic. They had my rights last year. I'm just excited about the opportunity and looking forward to the game."
Morin has three power-play goals and four points in eight games for the IceHogs. He suffered a lower-body injury in Rockford, which hurt his chances of being recalled earlier when Dave Bolland and Marian Hossa were hurt.
The 19-year-old was one of the last cuts at training camp.
"I couldn't really do anything about it," Morin said. "Injuries are a part of hockey. I just had to be patient. They're giving me an opportunity here. Hopefully, I can do something with it."
