Center Patrick Sharp will sit out the Blackhawks home opener Saturday against the rival Detroit Red Wings, a source said.
Sharp took part in the red-carpet walk-in with his teammates before the game, but will not play because of an upper-body injury. It is not believed to be serious. Sharp did participate in the morning skate on Saturday. He has a goal and an assist Thursday night against the Colorado Avalanche in Denver.
Rookie center Brandon Pirri was recalled to take Sharp's place in the lineup. Coach Joel Quenneville said multiple times that he was impressed by Pirri, 19, in training camp. It will be Pirri's first NHL game.
