ladd.jpgNEW BUFFALO, Mich. -- Restricted free agent Andrew Ladd received a qualifying offer late Saturday night from the Hawks, a source confirmed.

Ladd, Antti Niemi, Niklas Hjalmarsson and Jordan Hendry are the four Hawks that are restricted free agents. The deadline to qualify restricted free agents is Monday.

Antti Niemi also has received a qualifying offer. According to an ESPN report, so has Hjalmarsson. Both were expected.

Jack Skille and Bryan Bickell also are restricted free agents. Both have been mentioned by Hawks GM Stan Bowman as players he expects to possibly fill out his roster.

If a qualifying offer is not made, a player becomes an unrestricted free agent. Free agency starts July 1.

Ladd has surfaced in trade rumors often, and was a hot topic during the NHL draft Friday in Los Angeles. It is still possible he can be moved despite receiving the qualifying offer.

If Ladd, Niemi or Hjalmarsson received offer sheets from other teams and opted to sign with another team, the Hawks would receive compensation.

Adam Burish, John Madden, Nick Boynton and Kim Johnsson are unrestricted free agents.
