If the playoffs started today, the Hawks would play the rival Detroit Red Wings -- not exactly the first round matchup anyone wants.
But there are still games to be played, and the Hawks have three of them (St. Louis, Colorado, Detroit).
What is known, though, is the Western Conference playoff field. With Colorado's win over Vancouver and San Jose's win over Calgary Tuesday night, the Avalanche is the last team to qualify.
Here are the standings -- only teams that are in the playoffs -- after Tuesday's games:
San Jose 109 points, two games left
Hawks 107 points, three games left
Vancouver 101 points, two games left
Phoenix 102 points, three games left
Nashville 98 points, two games left
Los Angeles 97 points, three games left
Detroit 96 points, three games left
Colorado 93 points, three games left
