The Hawks recalled center Jake Dowell Sunday from the Rockford IceHogs, and placed center John Madden on injured reserve.

Dowell was called up because Marian Hossa is "doubtful" for Sunday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Hossa left Saturday's shootout against the Atlanta Thrashers after enduring a hard hit from Colby Armstrong in the third period. The winger traveled with the team to Columbus, but is considered doubtful by coach Joel Quenneville.

Madden suffered a lower-body injury Dec. 9 against the Dallas Stars. Madden and Ben Eager were both ruled out of this weekend's games by Quenneville.
