Bowman "comfortable" with Hawks goalies

goalies.jpgCALGARY, Alberta -- Here's a quick excerpt from general manager Stan Bowman's Q&A with a handful of reporters Thursday night before the Hawks faced the Flames.

Bowman said he was comfortable with the Hawks' goaltending tandem of starter Cristobal Huet and backup Antti Niemi.

"From my perspective, I don't worry about them," Bowman said. "We're sitting here in January. There's a lot that's going to happen between now and April. We'll see what happens. But they've both played well. We wouldn't be where we are at now without goaltending. That's comfortable for me."

Bowman's comments come after former Hawks star Jeremy Roenick said the Hawks' duo of Huet and Niemi wasn't good enough to win the Stanley Cup Wednesday on ESPN 1000's "Waddle & Silvy" show.

"It's been our strength really all year," Bowman said. "I know we play a good team defense as well, but at the same time, without solid goaltending we wouldn't be where we're at."

The reality is that the Hawks have accomplished nothing yet. Just use the Sharks as the example - finishing one or two in the regular season means NOTHING.

They have a fantastic young team and "could" certainly win it all BUT... Anyone that know anything about the great game of hockey knows that the playoffs are a completely different season. The teams that win the Cup have grit and desire that always outweighs "talent" and flash every single time (ask the Canes, Ducks and Devils).

To win the Cup you must have also solid veteren goaltending! I like Huet but taking emotion out of the equation...I just don't think he can take the Hawks to their One Goal. The Hurricanes have played well lately but are sellers at the trade deadline. They need youth and Hawks have plenty.

I love these guys but I propose Cam Barker (Hendry can fill in) and Versteg (Boland coming back) for Cam Ward.

Ward has lead the Canes to the Cup and won the Con Smythe in the process. He would likely have been on Team Canada if not for the Cane's struggles early this year.

A tough trade but... remember our ONE GOAL!
