Bears waste no time, sign draft picks Mills, Washington

Two down, four more to go.

The Bears are wasting little time reaching deals with their 2013 draft class, announcing they've agreed to terms with offensive tackle Jordan Mills and defensive end Cornelius Washington on four-year contracts on Wednesday.

Mills and Washington are the first draft picks this year to sign with their respective teams. Bears first-round pick Kyle Long, a guard from Oregon, remains unsigned. Deals also need to be reached with linebackers Jon Bostic (Florida) and Khaseem Greene (Rutgers) and receiver Marquess Wilson (Washington State).

Mills (6-5, 316 pounds) was selected out of Louisiana Tech with the 163rd overall selection in the fifth round on Saturday. He will compete at right tackle against veterans Jonathan Scott and J'Marcus Webb.

"Anywhere the coaches want to put me to play is good with me, left or right, either side," Mills said. "Anywhere I can go to help my team, I'm going to do it. Like I told some of the coaches, if they have to put me at H-back to lead block, I'll do that. Anywhere I can help my team, I'll do it."

Washington (6-4, 265 pounds) was taken in the sixth round (188th overall) out of Georgia. ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. said the "biggest surprise" of the draft was seeing Washington fall to the sixth round.

"Even though his sack totals were very low, his talent is enormous," Kiper said Monday during a conference call with reporters. "I thought he played better in certain games than people gave him credit for. I thought he had a nice Senior Bowl week. He's got too much talent to last to the sixth round, but when people get that underachiever label, sometimes that hurts you.

"I think it made a lot sense for the Bears. I was surprised he didn't go in the third or fourth round, at the latest. I thought he could as high the [second]."
