Bears general manager Phil Emery is expected to meet with New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Thursday, according to a league source.
Pro Football Talk initially reported the imminent meeting.
Carmichael was named offensive coordinator of the Saints in 2009, replacing Doug Marrone who left to become the head coach at Syracuse. Saints head coach Sean Payton calls offensive plays. But Payton was suspended for the 2012 season, and Carmichael handled that duty. ![]()
The Saints offense ranked 2nd in the NFL, No. 1 through the air.
Carmichael grew up in Medway, Massachusetts and attended Boston College.
He started his coaching career at New Hampshire, and he worked with Brees in San Diego then joined him in New Orleans.
Emery has already met with or is expected to interview with the following coaches: Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan, Atlanta Falcons special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong, Dallas Cowboys special teams coordinator Joe Decamillis and Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Tom Clements.

Not the wow list is it? Carmichael is an intresting choice because he has a year playing as the head coach and calling plays. But it's a dome offense, the Saints offense has always struggled in Chicago in the winter. This would seem like the ideal choice though give nthe fact that the Bears want to retain the defense and the defense holds up one more year. He would need a really good zone line to make his offense work though, not to mention a stud TE. Not Davis despite what Emery might think. Emery needs to stop listening to his internal scouting people and personel department. Those are the same clowns that got Angelo in trouble. "Yeah Jerry, Chris Williams is a stud and no TE in the league is better than Davis." Those are the people he talks to when he wants advice, and he is saying the same things that Angelo said about the talent
Everyone wants you to think Emery is in charge and doing everything but that's not what is going on. Believe it or not he talks to people, he's not a Cowboy. And the Bears organization has a philosophy, they make choices via concensus. Angelo has said it, Emery said it last year. But this year they are trying to have him come off as a one man show. That is just PR and image handaling that the Bears are throwing out there. Listen to what he says. Before he fired Lovie he had a Q&A session with George and Ted. George already wanted Lovie gone so he got the okay. George was not so angry about not making the playoff's as he was about the Packers losses. Next when he talks about the talent like the O-Line. He didn't tell you what he sees he told you what they see, because it's a concensus. He talked to his scouts, then he talked to the people at stats inc and PFF, before he gave you any information. It's planned it's a concensus and that is the organizations philosophy.
The Bears do not want a powerful leader, they never have, they want someone who is agreeable, and a concensus builder so that everyone gets imput. Why do you think they hired him? He fits their philosophy.
How was his first draft? Did the offense get any better this year? Did he address the line or talk about how he and his scouts had two 24 year old tackles that "THEY" talked about and that "THEY" agreed they could not improve the position in the draft?
Look at this process, for finding a head coach. This seems new to people? "We" are going to cast a wide net and explore all the options. People are acting like this is some new brilliant plan. They said the same thing when they hired Martz. It's just nobody wanted to be Lovie's OC to people kept turnign down the interviews. Heck that dude from the Packers they are looking at now, they tried to interview back then. They are looking at some of the same guys from last time. And before Martz, they did the same thing with Lovie, we are going to cast a wide net and explore all the options. They say the same thing everytime. It's nothing new.
The shock I am having with the media acting like this is some new approach by the Bears is insane. It's no different, Emery was just nice to to them and Lovie the media hater is now gone so they are happy. It's first date syndrome. Everything is the most perfect ever, until that one day you wake up and realize how many flaws they have nd how you wish you were with someone else. My god it's like all the reporters are going to their first dance. "It's sooooo awesome!" SNAP OUT OF IT! The guy has not done anything worth noting other than a bad first draft. Hell Cutler had more to do with getting Marshall than this guy did. The guy tried to brag on Jon Scott, are you kidding me? The dude stank.
Can't wait til lthe rose color glasses fall off and some of you lose the beer goggles, this chick is not Alizee, you all are going to be waking up with Courtney Love after a bender.
ur an idiot
Agreed. That dude is a moron.
Maybe, but i am also right. Why do you think they hired Emery, because he was new and different? Or because he used to work for Angelo in Chicago for over 6 years? Who was the first scout Emery hired? Dwayne Joseph, a former Bears DB, and he worked for them as a director of player development. Yes the big change, Emery worked with all these guys when he was here last time. All these guys are friends of his. He hasn't change jack. He just promoted a bunch of his buddies. It's the same Angelo scouting department minus Depaul, Gabriel and Wilson, who were all gone and never replaced before fill got here. So Emery and all but two of the scouts are the same guys, who were here during Lovie, Jauron, and some even go back as far as Wanny. Yeah what a great job they have done.
You know that old saying, "the more things change, the more they stay the same"? Well that's the Bears organization, they do not like change. You ever wonder why Wannstedt was here for six years, Jauron for 5? Even Lovie 3 Playoff runs in 9 years and 4 OC's. What team fires 4 OC's and only one head coach?
Just look at Emery's first draft, it looks no different than an Angelo draft. Angelo Fired Jauron and Emery fires Lovie. Neither could make the change until it was cleared by the family. That's why it did not happen when they brought in Angelo and he had to wait a couple years, and Emery had to wait a year.
Like the Bears reached with Emery? They new him very well he was here for over 6 years. Lets see who Emery hires, then he can spew on and on about how all these people think this new coach is just the bestest ever. Then he will tell you how they are going to work together to draft players and how they will build a concensus, and he will only be forced to make a call if a call needs to be made, but hopefully not. Of course they will target one big name free agent, probably O-Line (Albert, Clady, Long). They don't know how to draft linemen, so free agency, just like they don't know how to spot an end, so again free agency, just like they couldn't draft a QB time for Pro Player (trade), same for WR welcome to pro player (trade). So how similar are the Cutler/Marshall trades? Most likely they will keep the defense and stick with the tampa two. Don't want to change that after all. Change is bad. Like how they are going not rebuild but build cause they think they have the palyers on offense. Gosh we must have the best O-Line ever considering the way Angelo, Emery, Lovie, and Tice have always talked them up. No pattern there.
I am not really a Bears fan I'm a Packers fan who specializes in hating the Bears and being a clown and writing run on sentences. Plus I know that it is coaching that influences how well players play in bad whether. I hope the Bears lose for the next ten years.
This list is more interesting than it seems at first glance. These are coaches committed to winning and adapting their approaches to the players they have available. They also seem offense-minded and focussed on building a team arond a quarterback. I am intersted in seeing how this all plays out and what the Bear players have to say when a new coach has been hired. Then of course the proof will be in the team's performance.
"ur an idiot"
LOL. Profound response there, Joe. Lots of facts soundly refuting your opponent.
