Jon Gruden: "There's a lot of good candidates out there"

Former Super Bowl champion head coach Jon Gruden is one of the hottest candidates available, but he didn't sound too interested in leaving his current job with ESPN's Monday Night Football.

I briefly chatted with Gruden Tuesday morning, as he was preparing to call the Outback Bowl, and I asked him if he would be interested in returning to the NFL, in light of seven openings. Gruden.jpg

"Ah, there's a lot of good candidates out there," Gruden told me. "I'm just focused on the Outback Bowl."

The game is today, between Michigan and South Carolina, in Tampa. Gruden lives in the area.

Gruden's name has been linked with a number of jobs, given his credentials. But indications so far have been lukewarm about his interest in returning to an NFL sideline.

I hope he stays broadcasting. I like him there but would get tired of him very fast as the Bear coach.

lon gruden would be a great choice for the chicago bears coaching position for one but not only jay cutler. The top gun undisciplined gun slanger needs a no nonsense master of offense personality like gruden to take the bears to the promised land of pro football and to develope the up and coming alshon jefferey and under achieving offensive line.the bears already have a very good defensive coordinator in rod marinelli.
