The Bears have plenty of key players dealing with injuries with a do-or-die game against the Detroit Lions looming on Sunday.
Matt Forte (ankle), Brian Urlacher (hamstring), Charles Tillman (ribs/elbow), Chris Conte (hamstring), Blake Costanzo (calf) and Armando Allen (knee) were held out of practice on Wednesday.
Conte pulled his hamstring late in the first half against the Arizona Cardinals. Coach Lovie Smith made it sound as if the second-year safety will miss a considerable amount of time.
"He'll be out a while," Smith said of Conte, who has started every game this season at free safety.
Forte hurt his right ankle early in the third quarter against the Cardinals. It was the third time he's injured his right ankle this season.
"We're hopeful ... and he didn't finish the game, so that's a concern," Smith said. "But his ankle is looking pretty good. This is a big football game, and they're all big. We always play guys when they're healthy and ready to go. Hopefully that'll be the case with Matt. He's pretty encouraged by what's happened."
As far as Tillman, Smith described it as "just soreness from the game." But Urlacher, who has missed the last three weeks, didn't sound any closer to returning.
"Urlacher, of course, is getting better, but wasn't able to do anything," Smith said.
