Houston Texans Tim Dobbins is a native of Nashville who played his collegiate ball at Iowa State.
Frankly, I've barely heard of him, but he's a seventh-year veteran who made his 21st career start Sunday night.
But Dobbins is delusional, based on his comments after the game.
He, of course, drilled Jay Cutler in the second quarter, as the Bears quarterback neared/ crossed the line of scrimmage. Just as he released a pass to Devin Hester for a 42-yard gain, Dobbins drilled Cutler. Replay after replay showed Cutler's helmet crunching upward, and Dobbins leading with his own helmet. The officials even flagged him for a personal foul.
Dobbins believe he was wronged. ![]()
"I just felt like he was going to take off running with the ball and I thought he was past the line," Dobbins said. "I did not hit him in his head.
"And actually, he did. He ran into me! How bout that?"
There's more.
"I thought it was a bad flag because I really didn't even hit him," he said, "nor did I lead with my head."
Dobbins also said he wasn't aware that Cutler left the game or that he had a concussion.
Is he worried about a fine from the NFL?
"I'm definitely worried about it but I feel like it was clean," Dobbins said. "I did not hit him in the head, nor did I lead with my helmet."

Dobbins, 1st of all Jay had already thrown the passage even if it was a clean hit it was a late hit for sure. 2nd of all the hit was vicious and Dobbins lead with his helmet. This was an absolute cheap shot at the quarterback and I hope he gets fined $100,000 and suspended for a game or two. Tim Dobbins admits no wrong on the hit he needs to be made an example so other players don't have this happen. Yes it's football, but a late hit, helmet to helmet is just plain wrong.
Maybe Dobbins suffered a concussion too, no one's that delusional.
scoreboard, whiny babies!
nobody's whining, bud. it was a cheap hit whether or not it was intended. it's too bad cutler got hurt, but it was a good game nonetheless.
What i want to know is how those two penalties happened... how can he have been ruled to cross the line of scrimmage... yet.. Dobbins get a penalty for hitting him in the head... it doesn't make sense logically... If the QB crosses the line of scrim.. he's fair game I thought.
Bears still suck. Cutler was past the line of scrimamge - legal to jack him up. Its football. Love to hear Chicagoans cry about hitting in football. What have you become Chicago????
Well, I don't know about Cutler running into Dobbins, but Dobbins definitely did not lower his head. Looked clean to me. He wrapped him around the numbers and it looked like it was facemask to facemask or shoulder pad to facemask. It was a hard hit but I wouldn't call it vicious. Dobbins was still on is feet after the hit.
The penalty was announced as unnecessary roughness. The ball was out of Cutler's hand and Dobbins took two steps to deliver the hit. He should expect a fine.
Have you actually seen the video? Cutler is past the line of scrimmage. If it were me I would have drilled him as well. He threw the ball and Dobbins took one step and hit him either facemask to facemask or shoulder to facemask while staying on his feet. Cutler also kind of jump passed it which put him in a horrible position to take any hit and made it look worse than it really was. I can't see how anyone could view that as dirty.
Delusional indeed! Not only Dobbins but also N and MLD. I think Dobbins will get fined and the call was a bad one regarding Cutler being over the line. Granted that the officials do not have the advantage of the red line that the sportscasters do, but they still should have gotten the call right. One can only hope that Cutler recovers quickly. Regarding Campbell, he missed at least two solid opportunities to go deep down the middle and dumped off early to short receivers. I thought he acted like he was afraid of getting hit, but most likely he just read the coverages wrong and wanted to avoid a sack.
we are not discussing score, we are discussing sportsmanship. Learn to focus, you moth-breather...
Even as a Packer fan who does not like Cutler much I see that as an unnecessary, dirty hit and I hope Cutler is okay and back on the field next week. And I especially want him healthy when Green Bay beats the bears in December. Get better Jay (you whiney man-child).
Hey Texans fans. Even if your team goes to the Super Bowl, they'll get their butts kicked by Green Bay as they already have so far this season. So, you're not getting any Lombardi trophy this year. Time to go back to riding mechanical bulls and watching your favorite scene of the two cowboys kiss in Brokeback Mountain, putzes.
UR OUT YANKEES THE SOUTH WILL DO IT AGAIN REMEMBER THE HOT SOUTH LITTLE BEAR
He passed the line of scrimmage. You seem to forget about this happening to Robert Griffin III when he got his concussion. He was a runner.
"If it were me I would have drilled him as well." then you'd be flagged and fined too. Cutler did cross the LOS, but only if you watch replay very very closely -- hair's breadth. Dobbins was running directly at Cutler, so you can be sure that he had zero concern with whether Cutler was across the LOS -- from his perspective, he could not have accurately perceived Cutler's position relative to the LOS. Long way of saying, he guessed, but didn't really care -- he wanted to hit Cutler, and was willing to take the penalty. It was a dirty play that, optimistically, could knock the QB out...and it did. He clearly led with his helmet, and launched upward at the last second -- you can watch his back foot and see clearly. And please go read the rules -- merely crossing the LOS doesn't instantly make a QB a target for whatever. He has to "clearly" become a runner...it's a vague standard, but here there's zero doubt Cutler was throwing the ball -- as one of you said, he was in the air making the throw, which is the opposite of what he would have been doing if he were planning to take off on a run.
Dirty, dirty play from a team well known to play dirty. Bears still gotta figure teams like that out, though. All the dirty plays in the world don't explain out TOs...
He was across the line of scrimmage and that means he is a runner and did not slide some can be hit. There is a HUGE difference between leaning forward and leading with your head. He didn't launch, didn't lean with his helmet, didn't pile drive him to the ground, perfectly legal hit. So what if he was trying to hit him hard he is a defensive player and sees a quarterback running straight at him not sliding. Good hit and legal. There is a line between being safe and playing the game, and this was a hit that was fluid in motion. One guy is just bigger and stronger than the other. Hope Cutler is okay but good hit. That's how football is played, this isn't soccer.
That's some truth right there.
How about the Chicago "Fans" booing their own player that missed the catch, fell on his back and hurt himself??? But you want to cry about Dobbins jacking Cutler up fair and square? Who's delusional?
He wasn't aware Cutler left the game? Say what?? So you're on the defense and you don't notice a different QB in there? GTFOH
Ditto!!!
Thats a word that goes well with Bears fans....delusional
"Hey Texans fans. Even if your team goes to the Super Bowl, they'll get their butts kicked by Green Bay as they already have so far this season. So, you're not getting any Lombardi trophy this year"
>> LOL, I can't believe my eyes/ears. Bears are ahead of Packers by one game and their fans were already written up their good season.... 2ndly, cant believe Bears fans are rooting for the Packers neither
You are grossly mistaken breckerdorn. The Texans struggle every season as the league's baby franchise just to get on the NFL radar; so to say "dirty play from a team well known to play dirty," is incredibly ignorant considering we're barely even known. Even when we do well, we receive minimal coverage; so, get your facts straight. Additionally, this is pro football baby! You’re going to see questionable plays. That’s just the game at this level. As for Dobbins’ individual hit on Cutler, to my fellow Texans fans, “Let’s not kid ourselves.” Remember, Dobbins is only in the game because Cushing is out. He obviously wants to prove he can take Cushing’s job, but to borrow the great J.J. Watt’s finger wag, “No way Dobbins.” You don’t become a star player for the Texans by playing dirty and Kubiak doesn’t condone dirty football. That’s one reason among many as to why he’s such a well-respected coach around the league. He may not admit Dobbins’ fault publicly, because he never throws our own under the bus to the media, but I guarantee he won’t tolerate that kind of behavior under his watch. I believe the Texans fans, as a majority, won’t tolerate it either. Remember, earlier this season two Broncos players hit Schaub illegally and intentionally, causing Matt to lose a chunk of his ear. We, as a franchise, were out for blood after that play. The Bears fans have every right to call this play for what it is. It was dirty, no matter how you try to justify it. Watch the replay. My opinion, Dobbins should step up and own up to his actions like a man, or lose the Texans jersey. I expect my Texans to be above garbage like that.
No they shouldn't fine Dobbins They should let players play and then Schaub would have been scraped of the turf with shovels what ever happened to an eye for an eye? Before the game the Texans "were" my second favorite team listening to Dobbins reply he sounds like my five year old child saying he didn't eat the cookie even though there's crumbs all over his face. Man it up say sorry deal with the penalty! But listening to you fans from Texas makes me realize I'm glad to be in Chicago where people are for the most part well mannered, and now I have a better understanding why Dobbins made the comments he made he has tactless fans that will back up anything he says try that in Chi-Town and he'll get booed right off the field.
Well mannered?? Really? That's why your own player got boo'ed off the field. Texans fans would never do that to their own!
Did you get hit in head too... He speared Cutler head to head, its not ok on the field and it would not be ok any where. He will get fined and he may sit out and for his own good I honestly hope Tim never gets hurt like what he did to Cutler. Don't post to onlyprove you can write , but not think....

Rachel....move back up North, you dont have the right to wear a Houston Texans jersey as a fan...the play was NOT dirty, watch the game a look at how many illegal hits Chicago had away from the ball. None of you know football if you cant see its a game played by men. Cu*tler woulve been pissin & moanin about his own team had he stayed in throughout it....I'm sure he's throwing the whole town under the bus because they didnt protect him...pathetic, prima dona!
Gents,
Tim Dobbins is a clean player. Try and remember the guy has not seen a replay, he did not launch himself yet did in fact make helmet to helmet contact so intentional or not its enforceable by fine. What delusional is the perspective that fandom seems to rain down on us. Dobbins had to cover a QB, that was still a threat to throw the ball, he had to stay high to challenge the pass. Once impact was immanent Dobbins lowered his shoulder for the impact and tackle, he did not launch himself, head down he did not also see the helmet to helmet. The reporter has seen the replay, we all know there was head to head contact lambasting a player with this sillyness is amateurish, but I have to account for the fact most journalist majors have more time experience with the tuba, than they do with shoulder pads. The Texans are not a dirty team, they are one of the least penalized teams in the NFL. Cut blocking is legal, the Bears cut block. It was a old fashioned heavyweight fight last night between two very good but not great teams. The Cutler injury was unfortunate and robbed all of us of an exciting 2nd half. Texan fancs are not wh!inning about Marshall pushing off on every catch last night, its football folks not a beauty contest.
Wow.....way to be original. How about Houston we have a problem? You need to look up what a spear is mo-ron. It was an illegal hit, it was not a dirty hit, it was not a spear. Lmao
Most of you are plain simple. Dobbins hit was helmet to helmet and no where on the field is this allowed. Either before or after the line of scrimmage. If Conte got fined $21,000 earlier this year it would be a travesty for Dobbins not to get at least that. That said Tice better figure out how to coach offense or the Bears will blow a gret opportunity. He clearly has no clue how to be either creative or make djustments. It is too bad cause this team could be great.
It's pretty simple... you can't hit a guy in the head, no matter where he is. If Dobbins actually believes what he is saying, perhaps he took a few thousand too many shots to the head himself. What a numbskull!
Dobbins is an idiot!
Exactly. Two full steps after the release, went head up with a clear intent to hit Cutler helmet-to-helmet. The hit was both late and illegal. And here's the real point on the NFL reaction, if any: they lost three QBs yesterday to concussions, which seems to be by consensus the greatest threat to the league in modern history. Cutler's future lawyer will have a laughably easy time convincing the jury that the league knew the threat of helmet-to-helmet head injuries and did absolutely nothing to protect players were are vulnerable.
A 15 yard penalty? Are you effing kidding? No...the NFL needs to suspend these hitters for significant lengths of time, and go after the coaches who are training players to use the helmet as a weapon to injure...for everyone's protection.
A penalty is a penalty. What's the problem. Everyone saw it. The play was over and he led with his helmet. That's it. Now fine him, and suspend him for a week or so. DONE !
Ahhhh, you must be a Texass fan......
Dobbins hit on Cutler was a cheap, kill-shot to the head. No doubt about it. He'll get fined, but not near enough. If that hit happened to Manning, Brady or Rodgers, the media would light it up and the NFL would have immediately weighed in on a penalty. Sad this stuff keeps happening. It's gonna take another broken neck or paralyzed player to flush the issue out. More fuel for the lawsuit going on against the NFL.
This is easy...Dobbins is a liar
Texan's fans, the only thing bear's fans do is whine, just come here after any loss. They got beatdown by a superior team. Had that game been in Houston it would have been 35-6. The Bears suck, Packers beat both these teams anyway so this is all moot. Go Packers.
"if it was me" from where, your couch fatso, please either learn the current game or remove the ding-dongs from your field of vision..."if it was me" hahahahaha stop
Wow there swas nothing wrong twith that hit. I'm so sick of all you p**** who need to grow up and reconize that a mans sport like footbal is played by real men. Now to be honesyt I never played but IIve seen people play it and th ehits don't tlook that hard.
