Mike Tice on starting left tackle spot: "It's going to be a dogfight"

J'Marcus Webb opened the first training camp practice at left tackle with the starters, but Bears offensive coordinator Mike Tice said it's not his job to lose.

Chris Williams wants the job, too.

"[Webb] happened to be in there first because of the fact he finished the season as the starter," Tice said. "It's going to be a dogfight for those two guys.

We have too many athletes, to not be able to throw the ball consistently. No, it's not [Webb's] job to lose. He might think so, but if he thinks so he's wrong."

Tice said, ultimately, the winner will be the one who can pass block consistently.

"I know they both can run block. But we're not going to go out there and run the ball 50 times a game, so they have to protect," Tice said. "If they're not going to protect, they won't play for me."

They can both run block? Really?

So if they are not going to protect in the passing game they won't play for him? Shouldn't just about everyone be replaced on that line then, cause they have not come close to pass blocking for him.

Hahaha, ahhh Tice kills me. He must be so happy to have Carimi back. Although I still feel Cutler and Marshall will do more for that line then the actual line will do for them.

To me, it sounds like Mike Tice is gonna give Chris Williams every chance to win the job, almost like he's leaning toward Williams. I see Webb had an off sides penalty already yesterday. Saturday when the pads go on and the hitting starts will be the first real test for Webb vs Williams. I'd like to see how rookie tackle James Brown hols up in contact drills also, should be interesting GO BEARS!!
