The Bears have reached an agreement with Jeremy Bates to become the team's quarterbacks coach, the team announced today.

Bates worked three seasons in Denver with Bears starting quarterback Jay Cutler.

Bates also has coached with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2002-03, offensive quality control; 2004, assistant quarterbacks), New York Jets (2005, quarterbacks) and University of Southern California (2009, assistant head coach/quarterbacks) and Seattle Seahawks (2010, offensive coordinator).

With the Broncos, Bates was an offensive assistant in 2006 then the receivers/ quarterbacks coach in 2007 and quarterbacks coach in 2008.

In 2008, Cutler threw for a franchise record 4,526 yards en route to the Pro Bowl.

Bates lettered as a quarterback at Tennessee (1995) and Rice (1997 and 1999).

Hahahahaha, how writers in this town said they would not offer Bates the job because Lovie hates him. Oooops, well they got the best guy for the job. Jay has wanted to work with Bates again since before Martz.

But there is a question, is he the PC? Or are they not going to say in the new secret society? Maybe they will let Tice be a big boy and call the play all by himself. Or they don;t want tot say because it was looking a little embarrasing for the Bears.

Bates has a lot of work ahead. He has never worked in a 3 digit offense and does not know the terms or lingo. Hell he doesn't know the plays, he's never seen this book. Bates is a West Coast run action guy. Oh I hope they bring that offense to Chicago, cause it's perfect for Cutler, although you really need a zone line to run it. Tice doesn't do zone lines as far as I know.

Hey Sean is it true that Tice calls Bates Boo Boo. "Hey boo boo, we're smarter than the average Bears." "Lets throw da ball little buddy, hehehehe."

Awesome.... now let's just trade for Brandon Marshal...if Miami would give him up.... Sean, Tice said he was keeping most of the offense terminology the same... but does hiring Bates change that and have the Bears go back to WC offense ? Looks like with hiring Bates hopefully the Bears can get some consistency in O coaching now since if Tice leaves next year or the year after at least the Bears have Bates to promote from within... wish we would have done this two years ago...

Love this hire.

Seems like apretty ood mover. Anything that makes Cutler comfortable is a plus. I guess I'm on an island regarding wide receivers because i still like the ones the Bears have. Of course a Brandon Maershal would be a great addition, but the likelihood of getting him seems remote to me. I guess I would rather go for a young star in the draft, but if the likes of a wes welker is available, then the Bears should go for it.
