Bears place Jay Cutler and Matt Forte on IR

| 1 Comment | No TrackBacks

Eliminated from playoff contention, the Bears placed quarterback Jay Cutler and running back Matt Forte on the injured reserve today.

Both were inching closer to full recovery, with the hope of returning in the postseason. But the Bears have lost five games in a row after a 7-3 start, and they were officially eliminated from the postseason in Sunday's 35-21 loss to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

Cutler was scheduled to have pins removed from his fractured right hand, and he had already begun throwing the ball.

Forte, meanwhile, is recovering from a second-degree MCL tear in his left knee.

The Bears were wise to make this move, since there was no upside to playing them Sunday in the finale against the Minnesota Vikings. The Bears should absolutely try to win Sunday's game, to end the losing streak. But, they should do so without risking a setback to either of their best two offensive players.
