Frank Omiyale may start third straight game

The Bears benched veteran Frank Omiyale for the second half of last Sunday's victory over the Carolina Panthers.

And while Lance Louis played well at right tackle, the early indications are that Omiyale will return to the starting lineup for Monday's game in Detroit.

One of the keys will be the status of Chris Spencer, who has started the last three games at right guard. Even after Louis recovered from an ankle injury suffered in the season opener, Spencer remained the starting right guard.

But Spencer fractured his right hand, and he was going to practice today with a cast on. The concern, however, is how much that injury would limit him against one of the league's best defensive lines, especially one featuring Ndamukong Suh.

Who practices for how long and how effectively Thursday and Friday will likely determine the lineup for Monday's game.

Omiyale has struggled in his starts filling in for Gabe Carimi. The rookie is inching closer to returning to the lineup but may not be ready in time to play the Lions.

I think Frank's problems started with his first step. He too often set up inside and got burned outside. With the way Forte has run up and down Detroit since entering the league, I suggest double TE's, one on each side for help, that will help Frank as it eliminates him from having to take an outside step.

Wow! This could be the ballgame right here. They say Omiyale is versatle and can play almost anywhere on the line. I say they have tried him at almost every position on the line and he has proven that he can't quite play any of them . Seriously if the Bears have to start Omiyale again, it might be better to think up a temporary injury for Cutler and let Hanie run for his life.

It seems like Omiyale has regressed during his Bear career. I wonder if the guy just lost confidence or something. For a few games last year he didn't just outright suck and get beat on almost every play. You thought there was a chance he would improve and work out. I don't think that any more.

Left tackle is is the position Frankie comes closest to being able to play. Maybe they should move Webb back to the right side and have Clutts double team Omiyale's man on the left. That probably won't win the game, but may keep Cutler alive.

Oh Hell NO!!!
If this is true, GAME OVER!!

As good as Chris Spencer has been playing, the bottom line here is this, you don't put a guard with a broken anything, especially a hand, against one of the leagues best defensive tackles, Ndamukong Suh. You just don't. I say play Lance Louis at right guard, he played Suh pretty good last season, and Louis has looked pretty good when healthy this season. Last week vs the Panthers Lance Louis had 10 knockdowns in 41 plays, thats pretty good. The 6-3 320lb Louis might be the nasty inside presence this team needs up front.

Now, if Louis starts at right guard, that will mean Frank Omiyale will start at right tackle. Omiyale will be lined up against defensive end Cliff Avril, Avril has 1 sack on the season, Avril isn't elite, but he is solid. Omiyale needs to step up and play and prove to the Bears why this shouldn't be his last season with the team. GO BEARS!!
