Lovie Smith was upbeat after the Bears practiced with a full roster for the first time during this year's training camp Thursday night at Olivet Nazarene University.
''We started to look more like a football team tonight,'' Smith said. ''Of course, it was good to get some of our veterans who have been standing on the sideline back on the football field. But I like what a lot of them showed us tonight.''
Here's who caught Smith's naked eye Thursday night:
WR Roy Williams: ''It was good to get Roy Williams back in the mix. Just running routes and catching balls from Jay [Cutler].
RB Marion Barber: ''Marion Barber showed up. It seemed like [when] you practice at night, you have more life to the practice. A guy like Marion Barber stepping in and setting the tempo, in 9-on-7 drill. All of that.''
WR Sam Hurd: ''Sam Hurd did some good things.''
QB Caleb Hanie: ''I thought Caleb Hanie came in and threw the ball well.''
LB Nick Roach: ''I thought Nick Roach did some good things.''
QB Jay Cutler: ''Typical Jay. Great passes each day. Command of the offense. He's blending in. one of the guys to just being a leader, as much as anything. And it should happen like that throughout. Each day will get a little bit better. It's his second year in the system. He's in a position now where we need a guy like him to help some of the receivers along.''
DL Amobi Okoye: ''I saw some good things from Amobi. Good quickness.
DL Vernon Gholston: ''Vernon Gholston also. Didn't get to see a lot of him today. But that's why we're trying to get a few more reps for the players, so we can get a chance to evaluate them. I'm anxious to see them on video tonight, to see how they're doing.''
