Martz won't rule out being head coach again

| 9 Comments | No TrackBacks

Mike Martz said he's enjoying his role as Bears offensive coordinator. He went on to day that this is the best staff he has ever been a part of and he enjoys the players he's coaching.

He did admit, however, that he would welcome another head coaching opportunity if one were offered.

"Sure," he said. "If the opportunity were to come up again, who knows? Shoot, I'm 59 years old. I'm very happy with what I'm doing right now. And if that's it for me, I'd be the happiest guy in the world, too."

I hope he sticks around a few years. The bear offense is much more exciting and unpredictable since he took over as offensive coordinater. In fact, I like all of the Bear coaches.I think they make a great group and would like to see them all stick around for three or four more years.

WOW...........sure sounds like MARTZ will be gone next year..........of course he is going to be offered a job, especially if the BEARS go deep into the playoffs.........The only ones I feel sorry for are CUTLER (3rd Offensive Cord in 3 years) and us BEARS fans! Bears need to lock him up now and work on getting some Offensive linemen in the draft! GO BEARS!

What team is going to offer Mike Martz a Job next year? Cowboys? Ha. If Jeff Fisher gets the ax in TN then Jerry Jones would take a hard look at him, but my guess is that he's got his man in Garrett who he's been keeping in the wings for a couple of years. The NFL is moving toward the younger, up and coming Head coaches and the fiasco with Shanahan in Washington isn't shedding much good light on the older coaching generation. On top of that, the Bears have not improved enough on offense to even warrant someone giving Martz a look. The Buffalo Bills will probably be looking for a head coach, but it won't be Martz.

Martz needs to stick around with Cutler for another year or so and help to make Cutler an elite QB in the League. If he does that, then maybe someone will give him a look.

if he gets an offer, we should match it and make HIM the head coach. i am not a lovie hater, but we need the mad genius and cutler to stay together.

If Martz goes I hope the Bears can keep running the same offense. The system seems to fit Cutler pretty well. We need to at least one more season out of Martz then one of the current assistance take over the play calling. Go Bears!!!

Hey Gearhead,

Don't you think that Washington itself is a fiasco? Remember Jim Zorn?

I'm not sure I put anything that is happening in the capital on the Shannys. McNabb has sucked this year. There's nothing wrong with looking at Rex if they are out of the playoffs and McNabb is being a baby.

Washington is the old-timers league of the NFL. It's where players go to cash a check and coast their way into retirement. It was that way long before Mike Shannihan got there.

I think the Shannys are just trying to hold everyone accountable for their play. Looking at McNabb's numbers, I don't see why that's so crazy.

I wish I could agree with you, gearhead boy, but I suspect Martz will have one or two offers. Whether or not they will be good enough for him to accept is another question.I think he would like to be a head coach, but only with a lot more control than most owners would be willing to giver.

Esteven,

2 totally different arguments there. I completely agree with you about Washington. It is a fiasco. But, Shanahan and Cowher are probably the exception to the going younger thing. Although, I don't think Cowher is that old. Plus I think their body of work is greater than Martz. I think it was Joe F. on here who said {and this goes back a fee weeks} that Kyle Shanahan might be a budding offensive mind to take a look at.

And Paul, I ask you, what has Martz done to deserve a look as a head coach let alone one that has more control than a normal one. I think the fans and to a smaller part the media are blowing this Martz "getting another look as a head coach" thing way out of proportion.

Although I have made it known that I would like to see Angelo and Lovie gone for the good of the team {especially Angelo. That will never waver}. I will have to say that one of the positive things about the Bears staff is that most of the guys have "peaked" out. Marinelli is perfect as a DC/DL coach. Tice is the perfect OL coach. He, Art Shell, and Grimm. And, I think Martz is going to be with the Bears for at least 1-2 more years. Dave Toub might get a look as a HC somewhere. Anyway, Merry Christmas guys.
