Steven Jackson expected to go for Rams today

| 2 Comments | No TrackBacks

Expectations are that St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson will play today.

Jackson is questionable for the game with a back issue after sitting out practice all week. He missed all last week with spasms and still played.

Jackson, the second-leading rusher in the NFL on a moribund offense, has yet to take the field, although there are some players warming up already.

Check back later on for full details on the inactives.

Steven Jackson is probably the leagues most underrated back, he seems like a warrior type playing hurt also, Jackson is definitely one of the best pure runners in the league when healthy. A lot of people don't know about Jackson because he plays for the....huh...oh yeah, the Rams. The one knock on Jackson is his durability, but at least the guy has enough heart to play hurt and to give his all for a team that is headed nowhere, you gotta give the guy his props.

The running game is the one area Chicago needs to work on this off-season. The lack of a running game is a major knock on Chicago's offense, but the lack of commitment is also a major problem area, and thats coaching. The 49ers game is the best example, the Bears defense had that game under control, but yet the Bears threw the ball 52 times, there was no need. They should have ran more, that falls back on Ron Turner, maybe a change is needed on O in the coaching department.

I realize its not fair to put the full blame on Turner, the bad play up front has been the biggest reason Chicago can't seem to get off the bus running. Angelo needs to work on that line this off-season. Left guard is hands down need #1, give me a break with this rotation crap between Beekman and Omiyale. Beekman might be better suited to play center, and Omiyale is a tackle, not a guard, again, a pure guard is needed to help this running game. Angelo needs to go into the draft and get a guard in the 3rd round this april, maybe Mike Johnson of Alabama, Jon Asamoah of Illinois, or maybe Mitch Petrus of Arkansas, any one of these guys would fit the bill. Also another back is needed. Keep playing rookie Kahlil Bell for the last 5 games and see what he's got, if he shows something, you got your guy, if not, they need to draft another back or sign a free agent. But someone is needed to spell Forte, hopefully Bell is the answer, if so, that would be one less need to head into the off-season with.

The Bears also need to take a longer look at Devin Aromashodu like Mike Mulligan was saying. A big receiver is also a need area on offense. The Bears have Hester, Bennett, and Knox, who are all best suited to play in the slot or at the flanker position, but they lack a big receiver for the split end position, maybe Aromashodu is that guy? Cutler has been yelling for him all year. With Armashodu's size, he has the ability to grab the ball up in the air, especially down in the red zone. Hester, Bennett, or Knox can't do that. Also, down the field wise, Hester and Knox are go-get it guy's, meaning you gotta be in perfect sync with them to hit them in stride downfield, thats hard to do on a consistent basis. Wheres a bigger guy like Armashodu, you can throw the ball down the field and they can jump-up and-get-it, its a lot easier to complete balls down field to these types of wideouts i.e. Brandon Marshall. Oh well, hopefully the Bears win today, as always GO BEARS!!
