The Bears will re-sign defensive back DeAngelo Smith to their practice squad today, a league source said.
Smith was released from the 53-man roster last week to make room for linebacker Darrell McClover, who was signed to help on special teams.
Smith was a fifth-round draft pick of the Dallas Cowboys, and was claimed off waivers by the Cleveland Browns. The Bears claimed him off waivers when they waived/injured cornerback Trumaine McBride following the season opener at Green Bay.
The Bears announced they would work Smith at cornerback. Some NFL types believe he is best suited as a safety. He played both last season at Cincinnati where he was one of the better defensive backs in the Big East Conference.
It is unknown who the Bears will release from the practice squad to make room for Smith.

What's the point? Is this musical chairs or something?
Tripper,
Read some more about how Angelo operates with his practice squad. By moving people in and out of the limit of 8 players he gets to evaluate more players. The fact that the GM does this is not news. It is news to know who is coming and who is going.
Interestingly, for all of the people Angelo "evaluates" on the practice squad, very few every actually seem to contribute to the team.
See Brandon Rideau, and a host of OL "talent" such as Cody Balogh, who never really got a chance to show what they could do. That makes the peripatetic moves of the Bears front office a fair approximation of musical chairs as far as I'm concerned.
I really wouldn't worry about the squad, though. The Bears always find some journeyman stiff that they absolutely must have, so these guys hardly ever get promoted for more than a week or two anyway before they get cut.
