Bears using 5th linebacker combination in 6 games

| 20 Comments | No TrackBacks

CINCINNATI--Hunter Hillenmeyer will play for the first time since Sept. 27 at Seattle when he suffered two broken ribs.

He is returning to action back at his familiar spot at strong-side linebacker. This will be Hillenmeyer's 50th career start on the strong side. Nick Roach will start at middle linebacker, making his third career start there.

Roach has led the defense in tackles over the last two games with 20 while playing in the middle.

This will be the fifth different combination of starting linebackers the Bears have used this season. Here is a look at how it's gone:

Opponent Strong Middle Weak

Green Bay Pisa-Urlacher-Briggs
Pittsburgh Roach-Hunter-Briggs
Seattle Roach-Hunter-Briggs
Detroit Jamar-Roach-Briggs
Atlanta Pisa-Roach-Briggs
Cincinnati Hunter-Roach-Briggs

Ok. its time say that the bears are not a good team. The OL is a piece of garbage. Ron Turner must go. L. Smith must be deeply eval.

I say we start off by firing the entire coashing staff and starting from scratch. Remove the entire o-line and rebuild from the grass roots and reinvent a new set of play books and decide which players are worthwhile of keeping and which players need to be taken to the trough. Our team in general save for a few players is a joke. I as a paying fan and customer say that i will not make another purchase of a product or a ticket as a display of protest against the owners foolish decisions in keeping the GM and the Coaches!!! I will always remain a fan of the team but this staff must go.

Hang in there Bears fans. This is the best thing that could happen. Jerry and Lovie are being exposed as incompetent. They always were. This is good, very good. Now the Lovie lovers and homers can't deceive us any longer. The sooner we get rid of them the better.

Just substitute Bears with America and Lovie with Obama for my political blog post.

If Lovie doesnt have a Denny Green implosion in the postgame conference then I don't want him around.

I miss the Mike Brown attitude and honest "We suck" fire that needs to be lit under the collective team's rears to get things going. The lines stink (on both ends), the offensive play calling is predictable (let alone thinking Wolfe up the middle is a good idea), and we are being walked all over.

I'm glad the Saints and Pats are not playing us this year, because I can only imagine the scores of those games.

Anyone like this genius(BBB), who seems to forget how the Jauron and WANNY eras were, and how Lovie went to the Superbowl when the previous two goofs couldn't even win a playoff game, is NOT credible for anything political...

Just substitute BBB with idiot for my political blog post....

Lovie is "officially" on the hot seat. No more "we like what we have", no more "gettin off the bus runnin'", No more excuses. What happened today was absolutely UNACCEPTABLE. It was an embarrassment as a Bears fan.

No more excuses....

Lovie, the target is now squarely on you.

Fix it or you will be gone at the end of the year.

BEARS

The Lovie Smith Era is over for me. There is no emotional content to the play of this team. No one is playing as if their job depends on it. If you consider yourself one of "Lovie's guys", then you aren't worried about playing time or your spot on the roster. The Cover-2 is dead. The notion of smaller, faster players is dead. You know where you get small, fast players... in rounds 3 and up in the draft because all of the big and fast guys are gone in rounds one and two. Our lines are getting pushed around on both sides of the ball. They can probably run a decent mile and a half time, but they can't get any push on third and short.

I want Bill Cowher. If the newly daring Jerry Angelo is really a changed man, then its time to pull off the ultimate shocker and fire Lovie at the end of this soon to be 8-8 season and get a guy in here who will insist on mental and physical toughness on both sides of the ball.

Don't be so sure the McCaskeys will release Stan and Ollie. Remember, the money is rolling in. Having a second rate team goes with having a second rate organization which hasn't bothered the McCaskeys all that much in the past. The Bears might sneak into a wild card spot, but 9 and 7, or even 8 and 8, seems more like it. A number of bloggers end their comments with GO BEARS!!! O.K., but go where? Certainly not to victory.

wow i am so happy denver got rid of cutler, the dude cant stop throwing interception!! 3 more today, he is going break farves record way faster then i thought at this pace!! when are people going to learn cutler is a mediocre quarterback at best. he got his butt handed to him today, 45-10. culter and cody hawkins need to stop watching each others videos, the only thing you can learn from a quarterback that throws a crap ton of interception, is how to throw a crap ton of interceptions. wow, i am so happy he sucks in chicago as much as he sucked in denver!!! crybaby.

I've been a fan and watched the Bears for 47 years......I can't remember a more total blowout in every phase of the game. This staff has got to go. The scheme doesn't work anymore, on both sides of the ball! It's sad to say but BBB is right on! Let's keep losing then clean house with a new staff!! I'm done!!!!

posted this elsewhere figured it works better here.... ;
names were chabged to protect the innocent:

No self respecting Bears fan better use injuries as an excuse! There is no excuse for the way we stunk it up.
Adams for that 2 really looks smart now right? Yeah we needed Adams more than a draft choice, How about Omiyale/Shaffer? Send us your poor. wretched and we will pay them. Angelo/Lovie both gotta go.
Please McCaskeys at least get Marriuci/Shannahan. and maybe Dline/Oline for Christmas instead of the usual new Boat you buy for your own D. self. oh and get rid of Ted - maybe sell the team while you are at it, cause after 40 years of being loyal to a team WHOSE OWNERS don't care enough to BUY! talent with OUR hard earned money - Cutler was just enough for them to make enough $$ off Jersey sales to buy thier new Boat. {?

People - URL is OLD AND SLOW! Please get off that expensive old diesel and concentrate on YOUNG PRO BOWLERS!!! Look it up under Wykipedia as Bears fans dont remember what a Pro Bowler is.

Anyone disagree with Sapp now? Anyone??

"Hang in there Bears fans, things will get better." Larry Mayer

Well thanks Larry for that wonder line of false comfort. Things will certainly get better when the staff is fired, the front line is remade and the D is not looking like a bunch of Penguins in the desert. By the way I really wish I was a fly on the wall during the locker room half-time pep talks between the coaches and the players. But I can only guess:

Lovie: Hey. Hang in there guys, I'm sure you are all doin' yalls finest. And if we don't win this week we'll have next week to foul things up.

WHERE THE HELL IS THAT PANIC BUTTON ????

Lovie and Ron Turner HAVE TO GO.....NOW!!!!

It can't get any worse.

Poor "Guy" I must have hurt his liberal, homer feelings because he had to insult me because he doesn't agree with me. Whaaa! Typical. Don't talk to me about 2006. We had the best roster, easiest schedule, and more luck than some teams have in a decade. With all that going for us the only way we should have missed the SB would be an alien abduction of the entire team. Where is our SB trophy Guy? I haven't seen it. We should have won! Lovie can't coach for crap. Wake up homer.

It all starts at the top. They can get rid of Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith, but if the cheap ownership still refuses to pay good players, or is unable or unwilling to hire competent front office people, the Bears will not improve. At this point, they got a really good quarterback, just to surround him with garbage. No offensive line, no receivers, and the defensive line is so poor at tackle that the defense can't stop anyone (not only today, how about 21 points by Detroit in the first half?).

Here are two things fans can do to force ownership to either commit to spending what it takes to win and hiring who it takes to win, or they agree to sell the team to someone who will:

1. Boycott everything about the Bears: games, merchandise, etc., and let them know that you're doing it and why. George Halas hired Jim Finks because he was embarrassed that we stopped going to games, which we did because the teams were so bad. It took awhile, but the hiring of Finks is what turned the team around and eventually produced a Super Bowl winner; and

2. Make Mike McKaskey's life as miserable as legally possible. Flood his email, jam his phone lines, put up billboards around town that embarrass him, even picket his house.

This is where change has to begin. McKaskey is a total jerk who was the main person who ruined the '85 Super Bowl team. He's a corporate slimeball who cares far more about money than he does about winning. Because the owner makes the ultimate decisions, until McKaskey's gone there's not much hope of turning the Bears into a winning franchise. As things stand now, they will just ruin Cutler and waste his career. I'll bet he's sorry now that he left Denver, even if he did grow up a Bear fan.

All right Tripper! 47 for you and 44 for me.

I didn't know you hated Cutler so much Creighton. I thought you loved him, like really loved him. In fact, you never thought the great Cutler would come to Chicago and so you made a bet that if he did, you would show up at the Bears home opener dressed in your mom's pink panties. But you never did that did you? You're all talk Creighton and behind the nasty comments you make we all can see you're just an insecure boy in a fat man's body.

Look at you Creighton, hiding like a scared little b*tch and using Brando's screen name. You're just so sad it's not even funny anymore. Everyone on this blog hates you and thinks you're a total retard. All of last week people were telling you to shut up and to provide proof when you said that Lovie Smith didn't want Cutler. Did you provide proof for your claims cowardly Creighton? Of course not.

You embarass yourself everytime you post on Brad's blog and you embarass every single Bears fan at the same time when you make things up and trash the team you claim to be a fan of. Stop pretending Creighton. Go be a fan of the Saints or Colts since they're undefeated and unless a team is perfect you won't stop bashing it.

Oh yeah, and man up coward.

No BBB, just intelligent enough to know that political commentary has no place in a football thread...

I love how you gloss over pieces in my post. I put the responsibility squarely on Lovie. And there is no such thing as luck. You out execute the other team. For one year, the Bears did that. I am just as upset with Lovie as everyone else, but this is nowhere near as bad as the Wanny/Jauron years that you, once again, gloss over. Those years the Bears we're even expected to win. This can be fixed...

And if not, Lovie should be gone.

I believe that is what I said. Now will you acutally read the entire post this time?

It's not that the Bears players are noticeably inferior to those on other team, (with the exception being the offensive line) but that the front office and coaching staff are overly predictable and reactionary. Case in point, Cedric Benson, Kyle Orton, Bernard Berrian, etc., all perform well for other teams and under different systems. Orton alluded to this earlier in the year when he stated how the Broncos system was the best he's played for. Or perhaps Benson, Orton, and others became superhuman since leaving the Bears...Lovie Smith is best suited as a Defensive Coordinator...as for Ron Turner, perhaps a used car saleman.
