He will be on the PS as soon as he clears waivers.
@Griz- If he clears wavers. This means Hillenmeyer makes the team; interesting that they went with experience over upside.
Could have used that pick or the 6th and seventh rounders on Kevin Ogletree, but NO... we go with Kinder. They gone!
Right, bearboy23. Because Ogletree is just lighting it up in the preseason for, uh. Uhm. Oh wait. He's awful.
When will bears fans start actually thinking?
Crying over a fifth round pick.
You knew someone would.
Bears GM Jerry Angelo seems to have changed philosophies when it comes to draft picks. Angelo of a couple seasons back would have never cut Freeman, or no one else 5th round or higher for that matter. I didn't think Freeman was gonna get the axe, but if you take a look at Chicago's defense overall, linebacker is hands down the strongest position. With both starters outside Lance Briggs and Pisa Tinoisamoa being only 7 year vets, theres really no need to start developing anyone. Briggs and Tinoisamoa should both be around for awhile. Now the question remains...why did Chicago even draft Freeman? My guess would be for insurance in case Tinoisamoa or Roach didn't pan out. Pisa looks to be a keeper and Chicago must just like Roach, they know what to expect from him during the season and that he can start. Freeman must have simply not shown anything on special teams, that might have been his ticket to making the team. Had he been a standout on ST during the pre-season he probably would have got a roster spot.
The Dan Buenning cut kind of caught me by surprise also. This does prove one thing, Chicago must really like rookie guard Lance Louis and what they saw of him during the pre-season. To me, Louis has always been an intriguing prospect from the get go. His size to speed ratio is intriguing in itself. The guys 6-3 303lbs, and he can run a 4.8 40 on top of his 30-inch vertical jump. The talent is certainly there, Louis could be something special in a couple seasons. The fact that Louis was a 7th rounder and is already getting a roster spot also might prove Louis could be farther along than originally expected.
The Kevin Jones injury is a downer, but AP did look good running during the pre-season, especially inside. He's better than a lot of people think and he's a three skill set back [runner, blocker, and receiver]. I can still see the Bears bringing someone else in if theres a surprise cut from another team, if not, Chicago will definitely bring in a young prospect from the cut downs for the practice squad. But AP should be fine as the #2 back. A possibility fro someone young to develop could be in Philadelphia, their loaded with Westbrook, rookie McCoy who looks like a keeper, and Lorenzo Booker who head coach Andy Reid likes. The odd man out could be rookie free agent Walter Mendenhall, he's got nice size at 6-0 227lbs and is a local prospect from Illinois State. Its gonna be interesting whatever Chicago does do, but again, AP will be fine GO BEARS!!
53-man roster will probably end up as such:
QBs(2)- Cutler & Hanie; RBs(4)- Forte, Peterson, Wolfe, & Mckie; TEs(4)- Olsen, Clark, K. Davis, & Gaines; OL(8)- Pace, Omiyale, Kreutz, Garza, C. Williams, Shaffer, Beekman, & Louis; WRs(6)- Hester, Bennett, R. Davis, Aromashodu, Knox, & Iglesias; DL(10)- Ogunleye, Harris, Adams, Brown, Anderson, Idonije, Harrison, Gilbert, Toeaina, & Baldwin; LBs(6)- Tinoisamoa, Urlacher, Briggs, Roach, Hillenmeyer, J. Williams; DBs(10)- Bowman, Vasher, Manning, Graham, Payne, Afalava, Steltz, Moore, Mcbride, & Bullocks; ST(3)- Mannelly, Gould, & Maynard
NOTE: Tillman WILL remain on the PUP list (just wait & see) or, at the earliest, return before Week 2 vs Steelers. Jones & Melton will be placed on the IR. McClover's only shot at makin' this roster is another Bears injury before 4 p.m. on Saturday OR Da Bears riskin' Louis through the waivers period (same goes for Rideau/Buenning/Balogh/Clermond).
I just heard that K. Davis went down w/ an injury & that's why Gaines played significant time in Cleveland (at chicagobears.com - Postgame Report for Browns game). Is there any truth to this? If so, not only is Gaines' spot insured, but McClover/Malast/Clermond have a shot at making the team.
Also, there is a hamstring epidemic at Bourbonnais. Bowman, Manning, K. & R. Davis. Let's not forget that Melton & Jones have ankle injuries, w/ Tillman recoverin' from 2 surgeries. J. Williams & Roach recently dinged (2 concussions for Nick!!). Harris, Urlacher, Vasher, & C. Williams coming off injured '08 seasons. Man, my Bears are hurting! someone get morphine for these guys!!
53-man roster will probably end up as such:
QBs(2)- Cutler & Hanie; RBs(4)- Forte, Peterson, Wolfe, & Mckie; TEs(4)- Olsen, Clark, K. Davis, & Gaines; OL(8)- Pace, Omiyale, Kreutz, Garza, C. Williams, Shaffer, Beekman, & Louis; WRs(6)- Hester, Bennett, R. Davis, Aromashodu, Knox, & Iglesias; DL(10)- Ogunleye, Harris, Adams, Brown, Anderson, Idonije, Harrison, Gilbert, Toeaina, & Baldwin; LBs(6)- Tinoisamoa, Urlacher, Briggs, Roach, Hillenmeyer, J. Williams; DBs(10)- Bowman, Vasher, Manning, Graham, Payne, Afalava, Steltz, Moore, Mcbride, & Bullocks; ST(3)- Mannelly, Gould, & Maynard
Practice Squad: Basanez(QB), Ta'ufo'ou(FB), Malast(LB), Balogh(OT), Turenne(CB), Freeman(LB), Asiata/Raiola(G/C), & Peterman(WR).
NOTE: Tillman WILL remain on the PUP list (just wait & see) or, at the earliest, return before Week 2 vs Steelers. Jones & Melton will be placed on the IR. McClover's only shot at makin' this roster is another Bears injury before 4 p.m. on Saturday OR Da Bears riskin' Louis through the waivers period (same goes for Rideau/Malast/Clermond).
After the Cleveland game, 22 players needed to be trimmed from the roster to get to the 53 man limit. With Kevin Jones going to IR, that leaves 21 players.
When combining the great job both Briggs and McClure have done, it looks like only 3 cuts remain:
1 Jones (IR)
2 Buenning
3 Raiola
4 Jason Davis
5 Clermond
6 Peterman
7 Hood
8 Rideau
9 Malast
10 McClover
11 Rivera
12 Freeman
13 Burgess
14 Hamilton
15 Turenne
16 Deleston
17 Ta'ufu'ou
18 Asiata
19 Balogh
The next to go? Perhaps Ervin Baldwin. That makes 20.
I think with an elite QB on the roster, There will be only 2 QBs on the roster. Hanie stays.
21 Basanez
Tillman comes off PUP list and with all the cuts annoounced to date there are still 11 DBs on the roster. There are 4 TEs.
So, who goes as the last cut? Bullocks, Steltz, K. Davis or Gaines?
Note to dasuerfan, Nice break down, except with your prediction of Tillman. He must come off PUP this week, or he will not be allwed back on the roster until week 6.
See what missing the playoffs will do. JA is under the gun as much as Lovie so 5th rounder draft picks with upside are expendible this year. If he clears waivers he will land on the practice squad.
So much for the Ourlads' projection of Freeman as the sleeper pick of the draft for the Bears.
cryin over a 5th? uh, we have been crying over all our draft picks for well, ok I can't remember how long, it's been so long. Sure throw out Forte and and Olsen! and and
Getting Cutler does not all of a sudden mean our drafts have been the best ever. Just look at our OL/DL/DB situations - we have concentrated our draft picks on the D and our D is suspect like last year. Kevin Jones? Think his inj.is big? well who backs him up? Draft picks that were so good we had to pick up Jones same with Pace/Omiyale/Cutler/etc... Our drafts have been medicore at best. so cryin over a 5th? well your right tell me something I don't know.
We are releasing the players we had to pick up cause our own picks can't cut it. lolol
I have high hopes this year and why? Cause one of our Drafted QB's is that good? nope, cause our trade for QB is that good and our Draft QB's are gone.
JoJo,
In case you haven't noticed, and you obviously have not, Ogletree is lighting it up with Dallas. One of Romo's go to guys. Grabbed a touchdown pass last night against Minny. The point is, good teams make later round picks count. And the Bears were known to love this guy. Just never took him. Or signed him as a free agent.
