Bears claim G Maurice Miller off waivers

BOURBONNAIS, Ill.--The Bears claimed guard Maurice Miller off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Monday night.

Miller will have to pass a physical today before joining the roster, and could be in uniform in time for the 3 p.m. practice.

The Bucs cut Miller, who went to Ole Miss, loose when they signed South Florida guard Ryan Schmidt. Tampa signed Miller as an undrafted free agent on April 30. He is 6-4, 327 pounds, and that would fit the Bears' desire to get bigger on the line.

The team has been looking for some depth on the interior of the line since Dennis Conley was waived after failing his physical on Friday. Provided Miller joins the club, that will bring the roster to 79 giving the Bears one more open slot.

Please use that last open spot for a vet WR. Pleeeeeeeeeeeease!

Now bring in Matt Jones to fill the last spot.

I don't know much about Miller, but his size is impressive . If he can move and hassle the quarterback, I'm all for him. Regarding Benson, ignoring him seems the best response, although in no way do I think anyone on thr Bears figure they made a mistake in dumping him.

The guy has nice size, but can he play? Or is he just someone to take reps before being cut? I think Omiyale and Reed need all the additional reps, or is Omiyale not what the Bears were expecting?
